Loyalty & Rewards Programs
Design a points, tier, or membership program that rewards repeat purchase behaviour without destroying your margin, then plug it into your store and email flows so it runs on autopilot.
"Our tiered Wayfarer Rewards program has driven over $8M in rewards-influenced revenue since launch, and active members purchase nearly twice as often as everyone else. The tiers did more for repeat purchase than any discount code ever did."

๐ Your First 90 Days
Is this for you?
- Customers already buy from you repeatedly, ideally 2-3+ times a year
- Your gross margin is 40% or higher, so redemption cost does not eat the reorder profit
- You run an ecommerce/DTC store or a B2C subscription with 500+ existing customers
- You already use an ESP like Klaviyo so points and tier status can show up in email/SMS
- You're optimising for retention and lifetime value, not chasing new customer acquisition
- You're an early-stage B2B SaaS company with no repeat-purchase transaction model
- Customers naturally buy less than twice a year (mattresses, furniture, one-off big-ticket items)
- Your gross margin is under 40%, most reward structures will cost more than they return
- You have fewer than a few hundred repeat customers, not enough volume to justify the setup effort
- You actually want new customers, not repeat ones, that's an acquisition loop, not a loyalty program
Not the right fit?
If Loyalty & Rewards Programs doesn't match your situation, consider these alternative tactics that achieve similar goals:
What to expect
A loyalty program only works when there's something to be loyal about. It rewards repeat purchase behaviour that would otherwise happen anyway, and layers extra incentive on top. If your customers buy once and vanish, or your margin can't absorb a reward, you'll spend weeks building a program that measures zero.
Pull this from your store analytics before doing anything else:
- Customers place 2 or more orders a year on average (check your 12-month repeat purchase rate)
- Your product category is naturally repeat-buy (apparel, beauty, food, supplements, home consumables)
- Average time between first and second order is under 6 months
- If your category is a one-off big-ticket purchase (mattress, furniture, appliance), stop here, loyalty won't move the needle
Rewards come straight out of gross margin, so confirm you have room:
- Gross margin is 40% or higher on the products you'll reward
- You can name at least 3 non-discount rewards (samples, early access, free shipping, exclusive drops)
- You have at least a few hundred repeat customers already, not zero
- You are not currently running deep, frequent sitewide discounts (a loyalty program on top of constant sales trains customers to wait for both)
Low-frequency categories and sub-40% margin businesses rarely recoup program cost. If you failed 2 or more checks above, fix product-market fit and repeat-purchase basics first (better onboarding, post-purchase email flows, product quality), a loyalty program cannot fix a product people don't come back to.
